Plastic Pollution in Nepal

Causes:

  • About 15% of municipal waste in Nepal is plastic

  • Waste management in Nepal is rudimentary and scarce, mostly involving open unregulated landfills

  • Local ecosystems are polluted by consumption of plastic waste by animals and contamination of ground water and soil

Effects:

  • Destructive changes to all organisms at cellular level

  • Disruptions of hormone system causing cancerous diseases and infertility for humans

  • Loss of biodiversity
